I got my car back! (Yay!)

I think there might be over-spray on the windshield. (Boo!) More because it points to sloppiness, not that it's a unsolvable problem. I hope to fix it myself tomorrow. Until they it's a little unsafe to drive at night.

EDIT: they took it back apologetically and agreed with me it was over-spray.

EDIT2: they seem to have gotten most of it, but not all of it, especially on the plastics. I have the right stuff for that and me doing that small amount myself is not worth the spoons it would take the press the issue further. I still haven't had a chance to drive it on the highway to find out if the blind spot was fixed.

Mostly just for my own notes.

The auto body place got permission to take a look at the work on the car. We handed the car over Monday night. The insurance guy phoned and said that they were ordering some parts and redoing some of the work. I'm super curious to know what exactly they found, which I hope I'll know more after we get the car back.

We started the insurance process. I did an "online" assessment by taking photos of the car. We didn't get a chance to phone the potential shop Friday. While doing a search for some thing completely different I found out that I had to submit a crash report to the RMV and the police within 5 days of the accident. I'm glad I lucked into finding this out. My insurance company should have told me about it. We've been approved for an estimate of the damage and we drove the car to the shop. The shop normally wants the car driven to them, photos taken, then they order the parts, then you get an appointment, but because the car was drivable, but not driving recommended, I asked to leave it with them. Now we wait who knows how long to have it repairs.

I hope leaving the battery out in the cold won't be too bad for the car.

I've been driving about 33 years and this is my first moving collision. I hope to have many more decades of accident free driving after this.

It makes me sad my basically new car is now forever "been in an accident" but I feel fortunate that no one was injured and I have a 2nd car to use. I can't imagine if I was also jumping through the medical system too.

I did see my pcp today, so that added to my stress level.

I'm hoping I can be less stressed now that I'm in the waiting stage of this.

Ev range

Drove to the Cape with my EV and really tested it's range. After driving down it said I had 130 miles of pessimistic estimate milage. As I saw driving back, I watched the pessimistic estimate go down faster than 1 mile/mile. I got my tomtom out so I could see a real time milage left read out. It did look like I was going to make it with ~15 miles left. Then I got stuck in traffic and suddenly had closer to 30 miles left because of the slower speeds. I wasn't using heat or A/C, but I was using headlights and radio.

So I think lesson is, I can likely make it to harwich port and back under ideal cercumstances, but if I have to climate control or as the battery ages, I will have to find some way to charge. Hopefully as the years go by charging will get easier. The cottage didn't have a good place to trickle charge, but there was a park and ride that had some level 2 charging. The level 3s were all near boston.

It was really nice to see my sister and neices and their families. I even had fun in the ocean, which is rare.

I've had a few software issues with the bolt, but they were mostly in the infotainment system (mainly the SD or USB not working, but it's also crashed on me and rebooted or not listened to the buttons on the steering wheel that control the radio.) Today's was a lot more worrisome.

The steering wheel panel, which has the speedometer, cruise control, lane guidance, headlight status, battery charge, etc. went black while I was driving and then slowly came back, starting with the gear indictor in the lower corner and slowly adding things back on. It didn't show all the indicator like when you start the car, but it did give the same message it does about the lane guiance system (which was the last thing to come back.)

The car itself didn't change any. The headlights stayed on, the car didn't sputter or the steering get heavy, but it really doesn't instill a feeling of confidence in one's car if that happens.

We got our level 2 charger installed. The install went realtively well. They didn't quite put it where I wanted, but where it is fine. They put the wire out the side of the breaker box, which the box seems to be designed for and he turned the plug over when I asked him while he was bored waiting. The reason he was bored was they needed a special breaker and the nearest one was in Worceter, so they had to send one of their guys to drive the almost hour to worceter and back to get it.

The box hums a little when it's feeding the car and the cable gets a little warm, but I think, given the amount of power running through it, both are at an acceptable level.

It's really strange to have the car full charged over night after using level 1 for a month and a bit.

I installed the 3d printed cord holder that was very kindly printed for me. I'm not 100% sure I have it in the righ place, but things are working well enough for now. I'm going to put up one more wire clip just to make cord managmenet a little cleaner.

We had the electrician look at the site where we want our 240V install. I am a little worried they won't be able to find the right spot to drill the garage wall, but I think it will work out. I think I have some basement rearranging to prepare, but they're not actually coming for the install until August 10th.

Really ran the car through it's paces this week and with the trickle charger, it had less than 60 miles of range left. So far, though, it's been performing well on range, which is nice after the c-max did disappoint with it's fuel milage. I've already put 800 miles on it.

I got some seat covers because leather seats are hot and sticky and it boggles my mind that people pay extra for them. I am still annoyed that we couldn't get a 1LT, but I am super happy that I got a bolt at all. I need to figure out if I can attach the straps for the seat covers with out them tangling in all the electric seat adjustments. Even without them strapped down, they have alread made wearing shorts during the summer so much better. I just hope they don't damage the OEM uplostery.

I exercised the van today and it was actually weird driving a gas car because I'd gotten use to the instant torque.

Mostly just trying to keep notes for myself. I don't expect this to be interesting for other people. )

We have our car. Annoyingly "Cars all ready" didn't mean it was actually ready and we had to wait another 30+ minutes. I really wanted to like that dealer, but something about today just got my anxiety to spike through the roof. I was so impatient, I didn't let him do set up and put the car out of "demo mode" and it phoned onstar to set up and I just hung up on onstar because I don't want it.

Now the learning curve and setting everything up and all the little things, like getting new velcro for the EX pass.
