SMS and MMS and brokenesS

I got some SMS spam (and later MMS spam) phoned t-mobile and asked them to help me stop it, since it costs me everytime I receive one. they offered to change my phone number, I explained, this was untargeted spam, that wouldn't help anything and would be a horrible pain for me. They offered to shut off my SMS service... um... no. eventually she gave me a number to report the spam with, but no credit, no indication that they or I could do anything. Really, I don't blame t-mobile that much. I'm with them because they're cheap and SMS isn't designed for spam. Really, you should pay when you send, not when you receive. It's horribly overpriced too, because it's grandfathered and hopefully, someday, I can go pay as you go email and stop using it.

I got a bunch of those on my T-Mo SIM from work that I only use for 3g connectivity and SMS testing! So, well, yess, the SMS reception on the Chromebook is capable of receiving this spam.....

I do blame T-Mobile for not cancelling the charge, since the SMS cost them almost exactly nothing. They probably hold that in reserve for when you sound like you're credibly going to switch carriers. :-/

T=Mobile did the exact same thing to me, and I was very displeased. I had been pretty loyal up to that point. If that hadn't happened, I probably wouldn't have jumped ship when I finally wanted an iPhone. So they have lost customers over this, for whatever that's worth.

If there were a ship to jump, I might consider it, but since I pay about $50/YEAR, I don't really expect much. However they're dumb, since the time I spent on the phone with their customer service rep cost them way more than the ~$1 the spam is costing me.

s called to complain too (and had a bad experience with their automated phone thing) but they did offer to shut off some kind of email to SMS gateway, which is how those were getting to him. I don't know if that would help you as well.
