woo, the t-mobile prepaid works the way I hoped. So I paid ~$90 last year, for the whole year of service, and I'm giving them $25 this year for the whole year of service. Woot!

I was going to pay only $10, but then I noticed the cents/minute was super low, so I thought I should get closer to the amount I used for the year, with out going over.

Yay! And thank you! I also paid $100 last year, and put in another $100 a few weeks ago which should last another year (at that point I had 60 minutes left but the phone was having trouble connecting calls so I added money just in case that fixed the problem.)

So $115 for two years (making $57.50/year) and the average will keep on dropping, is what I read here.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with my Tmobile pre-paid. One thing to be careful of is that your balance is in dollars, not minutes, and the rate-per-minute you pay is that of the last refill you used -- so yes, I suggest staying away from the very low ones.

I don't think that getting a lower rate refill changes your existing minutes. If I calculate my balance from the web page, which is in both minutes and dollars, and I divide the dollars by the minutes I get something close to my best rate/minute which is what I would expect if the old minutes kept their rate and the new minutes had their new rate.

I'll beleive it uses the most expensive minutes first, however.

Hmm. Oh, I also had issues with adding a card on the last day of the old balance and it dropping the old balance, and had to call support to have that fixed. They changed the minute rate to the higher one on the second call. So perhaps that wouldn't have happened had I not hit the 'last second refill' bug, but I thought he support person I talked to said single-rate was normal.
