cable and internet

comcast is charging us too much for our cable. They also want to force us to use digital boxes, which would make our (almost first generation) replay box unhappy. (I think we have and IR blaster, but I'm not really sure if it all would work.

Does anyone have any recent stories about their cable modem net or know of a really nice deal? I'm almost thinking of canceling the cable outright and getting everything from netflix and on line.

$50/month for cable, $46 for internet. I think we use the internet more than enough to justify the cost there.

If I could the channels I want, I would gladly pay the $50 a month. Too bad Comcast's packages are so confusing. I read about the channels, I see a package that looks like my channels are in it, then I find out a codicil that something else is required. Last time I tried to get HGTV and Syfy (Comedy Central was a bonus), I read for 2 hours until my brain asplode, then gave up and didn't order anything.
And I don't want a digital box. My TV is the size of a paperback--where am I going to put their monster box? But they want to force one on me so I can get On Demand (which I don't want) and the like.

What annoys me a lot about comcast is that they (over)charge you some arbitrary price, then as i later found out, you are supposed to argue them down some, by threatening to leave or something, and then they try to raise it again 6 months later. lather rinse repeat. we only have the internet from them, and paying more than you, but i haven't felt like calling them to try to reduce the price.
