I've found myself not reading twitter posts. At first they even caused me to not probperly read lj at all, since they're always of the same format and I thought i'd caught up to old posts. I don't know why and I think it's a failing of me. I wonder if it's because I don't feel like it's been selected for lj or has even details to make the statement meaty of if it's just something new and I've gotten into that phase of life where new is scary and takes forever for my brain to not fear it. But then I miss information, since people don't post more about the twitter subjects.

That's a failing of lj that I've noticed for a longtime, however. On one hand it's nice to know more about my friends lives, specially since I don't get to see many of them very often, but on the other hand, it means that when I do see them, I have little to talk about because all my news has been posted here.

*gets out her torch* Technology bad!

The trick is to only post teasers of what's going on in your life. :)

twitter posts (fed into LJ) annoy me; I'm not their target market.

I've definitely noticed the problem of the identical-looking posts from the same people causing me to think I'm caught up when I'm not. I do sort of understand the impulse that leads to posting the twitter material here, but it feels like the wrong answer (I don't know if I think the problem is social or technical).

I don't really read Twitter posts on LJ. I already have a mechanism for following people on Twitter.

I don't read twitter posts either. I find them quite annoying. They read like phone text messages generally, which means they are often quite difficult to parse.

I don't find the problem of not having stuff to talk about (but then I probably have a lot more catching up to do than you do). Things posted in LJ can serve as a starting point to ask for more details about the interesting things in friends' lives I think.

yes, that -- it gives me context with people i don't otherwise necessarily have context with... and when you ask someone "what's up?" often they don't bring things up, or can't think of what to talk about, whereas if you say "hey, how is the [new pet] [new job] [exciting hobby]" going they'll have more to talk about.

I am also skipping the twitter posts completely. While I use LJ mostly to keep up with my friends' lives, twitter sound bites just don't do it for me. If they become even more common, I might have to either revisit this position, or change my friends list. But I find them jarring to read because of their choppy nature. Even the status updates on Facebook flow better than twitter.
