The game, Portal, is completely awesome. However if you get the 3d version, you are required to get a steam account and then the steam login starts on boot and doesn't exit properly when you shut down your computer, tells you to update your graphics drivers if they are out of date and then gives you an ad once you've finished this session of THE GAME YOU PAID MONEY FOR.

So if you have a chance to play portal on SOMEONE ELSE'S machine, you should, but I find valve's business practices a little too intrusive to recommend the pain to anyone.

Not only that, but Half Life 2, the follow on episodes, Team Fortress 2, and Portal all require an active network connection in order to start. God forbid you should want to play any of these games on a laptop where you don't have any network.

I floated right on the edge of demanding my money back from Valve because of this practice.

i dunno about needing a network connection, etc, but it's one of the reasons i sprang for an x360. they COULD fry me over, but right now, i have media, and it plays, so... yar.

what a neat game.
