Apparently 3D tvs, viewable without glasses or other aids are on the horizon. So if you see one in a mall (local to me,) let me know so I can go see it too.

The TV is a standard LCD with an additional layer of lenses aligned in rows. These lenses create separate images of the material that, when received by your eye and brain, get interpreted as 3D imagery.

Apparently you have to be at the right distance, but I still think it's cool and I want to see this technology emerge.

This sounds exactly like the old lenticular system used to make, for example, 3-D baseball cards. If you've played with those things, you know that it's a cool effect but somewhat limited.
