I've been trying to come out of the dark age with my mail reader but my fingers can type "emacs -nw;M-x mh-rm" before know what they're doing, and there I am staring at my inced mail swearing under my breath.

yeah, at several points in my life I've had similar problems switching mailreaders myself. I ended up having to create an alias to catch myself. I might suggest rebinding mh-rm to some trivial warning function, or something. :-}

I do too, butI was getting tired of not beinb able to read someone's email because they happened to use some formatting that made their mail sender to format things into unreadablity.

Have you tried upgrading to newer versions of mh-e?
For my work mail it's not bad, although I've been using
gmail for my personal mail for some time now.
I should find something more modern for my work
mail that fits my usage model, though.

heh. Would it help to redefine mh-rm to not actually run mh?
