laptop angst

My logging-in, web, etc. laptop's PCMCIA slot started to go wonky (both the connection of the cards and the eject system) ((which is how hte last one died)) It's also freezing randomly, but that's less annoying. I cannot comfortably afford another laptop, and pricess are such that I would have to spend $1000 to get exactly the same thing as this spec wise. This laptop has been such a nightmare. If I had the extra money, I would gleefully replace it with a fujitsu and have it out of my life. As it stands now, it looks like I do with out, or go with some scary brand I've never heard of for $800, which I can float, but it cuts into some major finacial, though also non-critical, plans.

Greg will now try to be my hero and see if we can't get the built in wireless to work, because that would buy more time.

EDIT: yes, this is the same laptop that hashad a dying fan for weeks now

EDIT: Greg and the people at madwifi are my hero. The stuff that didn't work months ago, now works. I'm using the internal card to type this now! I can use this peice of crap for a few more months and try to save up for something better.
