The lack of Bag, and the gamelan song, and many others, on the American Extreme, is starting to finally make Nathan and I seriously consider a mod chip. American Extreme is SO LAME.
(Although it has a couple of familiar pop songs which I appreciate.)
You might consider the flip tops. They're a little more annoying to use, but less invasive and less likely to screw up your playstation. They can also be updated more easily*, though that's less of a concern if you're only getting DDR, since there is only really one more Japanese DDR coming out (likely).
(basically mod chips can get "out of date" as the software checks in the games because more involved. The flip top will allow you to enter codes (I think) which means you won't need to get a new anything. It is a touch annoying, however to use. But it's definately somethign to read up on.)
