A few days ago I was vaccuming for the arrival of my Mother-in-law and the vacuum made a horrible electrical loading noise and then produced electrical smelling smoke from the motor area. Time for a new vacuum (we dismantled the vacuum to try to varify that it was dead for all time and not fixable, but we couldnt' get into the mortor chasise. While researching replacements, it turns out I had bought a bad vacuum. So I ordered a new vaccuum.

Our TV for many many years now has had the relay which turns off the power to the tube be seized. We've had a foot switch on the TV for ages now (so we can turn it completely off.) Today that relay started to freak out, making the TV flicker. So it looks we will likely have to replace it as well.

This was after I'd already made an order from amazon thinking "well, I'm not buying much this month."

Please, world, no more failing stuff.

It is possible that ~my~ recent equipment failures are adding to your disappointment with the reliability of the things we buy, just becausee you shared in my experience.
I understand expenses that came too soon, but remember that my well pump was working faithfully and frequently in a really nasty environment for at least 20 and maybe as much as 37 years or thereabouts, and my RA saw (which is working again) is 20 to 25 years old abd has been stored incorrectly. If your TV is 10, then it has served well and can be replaced without rancor, however the switch/relay might actually be something that can be fixed for a reasonable price.
Sorry about the vacuum cleaner, especially since they seem to fail just when they are needed most.

The TV is 5.

I'm considering getting it repaired instead of replaces, since the problem is pretty clear in my mind and should be an easy fix. I just don't want to muck around with the back of a TV personally.

After we go tot he airport, we might phone around to repair places.

We've did that the first time it failed, then decided to just live with it. I don't remember what we found out then.
