So I got the glasses to play WoW in 3d on greg's machine, and sadly, with direct X, many of the objects don't look right. The basic terrian is gorgeous, but characters and alike aren't in 3d nor placed in the Z plane properly. The opengl mode was better in general, except for the not loading bit.

So where does this leave me.

Well it's true that I have a very expensive, very low resolution monitor with head tracking that I'll likely not use most of the time because it causes me to hold my head too steady. But what I do get is no desk. And since our computer set up is kind of cramped, it's a small win.

Would I buy them now knowing what I know? No. Can I return them? Sadly no. Would I? I think so. Should I try to sell them on ebay? I don't think so.

So it was not the greatest of purchaces, but I'm allowed to spend my money foolishly on occation.

I got it to work perfect with WoW on greg's machine. I'm almost crying from happiness. It's working!!!

Something I learned in all this is that if you have a nvidia 7 series or older card, XP, a 32-bit processor (read, nothign new) that you can run WoW in red/blue 3d just by downloading the free drivers. Since red/blue glasses are essentially free, it's kind of neat that you can play with it if you wanted to. (There is a bit of finess with matching stereo drivers to your current ones and knowing where to look for betas so you don't have to back out your current ones and then enabling the extra menu to get there, but hey, still almost free!)
