DDR tourney

On April 23 at 1pm there will be a DDR tournament at good time emporium.
It only costs the price of the games you play to enter. I asked the people who will be there if they minded someone entering who wouldn't qualify, and they said yes. They though it was good experience to play in a tournament even if you aren't going to qualify. It's during the day, but it's also a school holiday, so it's likely to be all the younger DDR players. There aren't that many older DDR players to start with, so I'm not sure that matters. Anyway, these people are WAY better than me and I've been bouncing back and forth about weather I want to go. If I'm going I should decide sooner than later, so that I can make an effort to go to the arcade enough to get used the difference in the pads and play some of the songs that I don't have at home. Keep in mind that the people who will qualify have an easy time with songs that I can't reliably pass.

when i enter "so what if you make a fool of yourself" it DOESN'T mean that i think you WILL make a fool of yourself, just that you sholdn't worry about whether or not you are, and because the other "yes" answers were less what i meant :)

Yes, if you think you will have fun with it. It will give you, as the people said, the experience of playing in a tournament -- without the intense competition pressure, if they are that much better than you.

I really don't know if I'll have fun. I don't know how important all these things going around in my head will be once I get there.

I would say don't sweat it, just go there to have fun and don't worry about the competitive aspect. (And you're more likely to do well that way :)

Of course, I say this as someone who's notoriously lousy at practicing what he preaches.... :/

Well it doesn't matter if I do well or not, I'm going to suck compared to these people.

Also, relaxing is always harder to do than say. :)

look at it this way...if you compete this time and expect to make a fool of yourself, you're guaranteed not to be disappointed. Either you'll make a fool of yourself, which is what you expected, or you won't. Regardless, you'll probably be more relaxed about competing in the next competition, or the next one after that, or....

I don't think that's true. I think that if I do make a fool of myself this competion, I won't want to repeat the exerpience. This is also a special competion where 1) I don't have to pay for anything but the games I play 2) I've been told they don't mind people who can't qualify trying to.

I don't really like publically being worse than everyone else at something. I think that I'm going, because of all the encouragement, but I don't think that the experience will make me any more prepared for any other competion until I can actually hold my own.

Yeah, that all makes sense. I still think you should go, partly for the reasons you say this particular competition is special; however, I hope it doesn't make you less likely to compete again.
