After my test, I had trouble getting restarted on my costuming, so made a necklace for a Blitzø costume, telling myself that I would switch back to the few things left on Alastor, but I've been running with it. I designed some horns. I'm having trouble gluing the TPU, so I've decided to test out some flexible PLA and see if that glues better to make the horns less dangerous to other people (in normal PLA, they are quite stabby.)

I was just going to closet cosplay the rest of the costume, but then I decided I needed a high collar shirt and that my old trench coat doesn't fit quite right.

To tell the true, in a lot of ways I resonate better with Blitzø, especially with spoilers )

I do want to wear Alastor for the party, and technically it is wearable as is. I really want to upgrade the wig, however, and moving the red cuff to the new pants would make it more comfortable. The wig is just daunting, since I've never really succeeded at wig-craft. I teased the Catra wig, which came out wearable, but not quite what I was hoping for.

I do find great joy in making. I hope I get a chance to wear my costumes more often. I don't know when I'll feel comfortable going to a con, though.

I've decided that wearing anything from the hella-verse is not acceptable for the TKD halloween party, so I think I'll wear GLaDOS this year, even if I have to not wear the mask most of the time.

I also love printing with my .2 for finish quality, but it means my prints are super slow.

I got my 3d printer (bambu p1s and ams.) Printed a benchy with mostly no problem, then downloaded and printed some conversion rings for cardboard spools for the AMS (the extra part that allows it to automatically switch between 4 rolls of filament.) Then I started to print my first own design, an ornament present for my coaches at CrossFit which was the gym logo and a motto the owner likes. I started with a scaled print, assuming something would go wrong, and it did.

Something was super off with the supports and it printed the back half of the motto as supports, rather than printing any of it. It also broke apart for some reason.

I decided I'd print one half and then glue the halves together, avoiding the need for supports at all. For whatever reason the AMS decided to swap in green instead of red and I was getting some warping and lifting on the black. I though maybe I could bend the warp back, so I printed it at scale, but the warping got so bad that the print got very messed up.

Then I thought I would try to just print the logo. The first time the slicer didn't complain it needed supports, so tried it without supports, but that was disastrous. Then I tried supports, but the supports were printing in red on the white, so it left little red bits. I found the button that lets me change the last layer of supports to white. It didn't come out perfectly (there is still a little pink,) but I think I can declare it "good enough" and print the other three today.

Then I plan to recreate the motto in the bambu slicer, print it separately and then attach it with some jump rings. This should be doable before I leave for Canada.

Then when I get home, I will start work on the other self-designed things and model the part my mother wants replaced.

The AMS is not happy with the cardboard spools, even with the conversion rings, so I have to do some hand holding with it. If I had perfect knowledge of what I was doing, I would have ordered my red, black, and white directly from bambu at the time of purchasing the printer (they were having an amazing deal.)

I also experimented with polishing the benchy, and now I know why people use primer and paint. Even though I could get it glass smooth, I could still see the lines. So this means I won't be getting and bronze silk filament for the sword parts, but rather hand polishing them and then priming and painting.

My cricut certainly isn't the most economical way to make things, but I have used it a fair amount and it is super fun. My most recent was this shirt, which also caused me to finally at least dabble with artscape. I really don't want to spend $100 on a heat press for my shirts, but it is proving to be very hard to get good results with an iron, though I'm getting by.

I got to be an examiner for the black belt test again. Everyone, including me, was much less prepared, but I was also much more relaxed, since I had done it before. My suit pants were a little tight for what I had to do during the test, so I went to K&G and lucked out and got two pantsuits from the clearance rack, one for $22, one for $30. Both jackets aren't quite right for the context, but the $22 looks so awesome on me and both pairs of pants are roomy enough to allow me to squat, so now I at least have a choice for May if I'm a tester then. Plus they are both machine washable suits! I need to price out getting the old pants dry cleaned or decided if I'm hand washing them. Last year I bought boys dress shoes just in case I ever wanted to wear the suit as a Loki suit and they came in handy, since my fancy dress boots were both peeling AND didn't quite fit anymore (might have fit with stocking socks instead of sock socks.)

It was very reassuring that K&G had suits that were WAY too big for me. I was worried I had maxed out their size selection (since the pants I owned were the biggest they had in that style when I bought them,) but apparently only in the brand of my existing suit (which I'm not sure they even carry that brand any more. Being able to shop in a store, especially for formal wear, is a privilege.

I couldn't let Halloween go by without making a thing, so I made some ears. It felt really good to make something.
