Given I won't be starting my music composition and preparing for Winchester down day in earnest until January and that I was coming off the intensity of working on the costume, I decided to try a paint by diamonds kit. I didn't realize how small the "diamonds" were and got possibly a larger kit that I should have, but so far it is kind of soothing in a puzzle/paint-by-number kind of way. I could not do it without my bifocals, so warnings for anyone considering getting on of these as a gift. It's about like beading, so it requires that level of eye sight, dexterity and calmness of home (i.e. would not recommend doing this with small children running about.) Feel free to ask any more questions if you were considering this for yourself or someone else.

Ok, I'm now completely obsessed with image poi. Which means first I need to learn to poi dance. I know that many of you know some people who know some people who do that sort of thing and so I was wondering what the community was like? Are there any stereotypes (like you can only spin poi if you attend burning man)? How tied to it's origins is it? Will it be another hobby that is frowned upon as being culturally appropriated or is spinning LED (I will never trust myself with fire) far enough from the tradition that it never comes up. Or really anything else I should know about spinning poi community or culturally.

P.S. What is an image poi you ask? video answer under the cut. )
