It's that time again when most of my friends disappear to a con. I grew up in cons and had fun for years (in Ottawa fandom) and I'm not going. I was bored last time I went. It was expensive and I just didn't have fun. I think to do it properly I would have to get a hotel room and pretend that I was 500 miles from home, not just a T ride away.
There is so much there that feels just out of reach.
An art show that I'm too scared to gamble on trying to sell my stuff in, hall costuming, which I would love to do again, but haven't been costuming enough lately to really have something. I'm not sure how well the Devil Zukin costume would go over.

I wish I could find away to enjoy cons again.

I hope those who are going have fun, and it's really not a big deal, it's just something I wanted to state for the record.

FWIW,
I'm going, and I will not have fun.
The thought that Arisia is coming up depresses me a lot too.

FWIW, I'm not going to Arisia, although someday I'd like to. I do hope to be at the flea, though.

Come visit for one of the Chicago-area cons! I'll introduce you to lots of interesting and fun people, like the (rest of the) General Technics crowd. GT is Quality People.

Capricon 23 is coming up on February 6-9. I think out of the Chicago cons that Capricon has the best room parties and overall atmosphere. The fact that it's in the Arlington Park Sheraton helps.

(If you haven't guessed, to me cons are all about the people.)

Con are all about the people too, for me. I wouldn't feel comfortable going to a con where I only knew one or two people. I know lots of peopel at arisia, but last time I felt... lonely despite that. I think because my con habits were different than the people's who I knew and I think because I was worried about when to go home and if I was having enough fun to warrent being there.
