I saw the taiko group Tao tonight, and wanted to remember a few thoughts.

I wanted to be that odaiko woman. I should learn her name. I loved so much of what she did.

I want a bass koto.

The fue was very good, but I felt the heavy reverb cheapened it and made it feel less real.

I was impressed by things the majority of the audience wasn't and vice versa. The fue and koto got almost no applause if the drumming continued, but people just playing fast and loud got a lot of appalause. I hope this doesn't bode poorly for my own future ability to please an audience. I liked the piece that used silence, team work and motion to the full extent.

They tied their okedo differently for one song. They also got some powerful boom out of small chus. I'd love to know the art of doing that.

Their encores were the best part, way better than they're "we want to share a good time" peice, which felt very forced. They used the "make the audience clap" thing way too much.

The costumes were great and fairly simple, though some of them seemed to be made of silk for the main part of the costume, which would be costly.

I don't feel like I had that "taiko bliss" moment that often do with taiko shows. There's no one moment that stuck out in my head. It was good taiko, but... I don't know. Maybe it was too much, too fast on the pacing.

I didn't like the drumless taiko playing dance at the start.

I did like the paired "macho-off" traded duos.

I liked how even when it was a nice free song, they were in sync. I can only imagine that comming from years of playing together.

Don't get me wrong, it was good. I'm glad I went. I'm just a very critical person.

I'll add more things as I think of them.
