I made an ottoman out of wood and cloth and stuffing. It stores things.

Here's Otto and the couch.

Here's nate checkin' out the nifty storage!

Here's Otto and his chair, who will soon have a black cover:

Here's me testing it out:

I need to rethink what kind of cushion I want and what size the backing plate should be and how to make it solid enough to sit on . (The base is plenty solid, but the topper is not.)

The usual answer I've seen is to make a piece of fairly thick wood the right size for a cover. Make sure it has some projections pointing into the storage area so it can't slide off the ottoman. Then simply slide it into the cushion, with all the padding above the piece of wood. If you're feeling ambitious, come up with a way to keep the wood from sliding around in the cushion.

I'm thinking hingest might be the way to go. Then I can have something very thick on the top. Right now I just have a pressboard in the cushion.
