I want new ringtones (not that my cellphone ever plays ringtones, but hey it's good to have a hobby.) Since my phone can use almost any sound as a ringtone, anyone have any suggestions that would be partiularly me.

Also, on my old phone this ringtone sounded like crickets, not like a weird piano. Which of course is some missing voice information. Anyone know how to make an old nokia midi ring tone have the right voices on a new nokia? It's my favorite message ringtone of all time. I suppose I could record the old phone playing the midi.

Oooh, that's so weird. I think you're right -- the old phone had a non General MIDI patch set, at least for some instruments. Your idea sounds right, or perhaps you could find the right MIDI patches and then generate a WAV using something like timidity (which would be higher quality than trying to record the old phone).

Can you do MP3/WAV ones? I have a stargate dialing as my default.
I made a doom song one at one point. Maybe make more Zim ringtones?
I like ones that sound like background noises to most people
but are understandable to me as it ringing.

Yah, I think I like sounds best too. Somehow it just seems so distracting when someone's pocket starts banging out a poor little distorted rock tune.

I should think about sounds that are important to me but still make good ring tones.

(yes, my phone can do mp3s)
