EDIT: Sorry, this is kind of driver centric. Feel free to answer it if you are a passenger and replace "when I'm driving" with "when someone is driving"

EDIT2: There is a typo in the second quest. It should be "yes, but I don't insist if they don't put it on."

I think there's a "don't" missing in option 2 on question 2.

Oh! I just read it as "do you ask people to buckle up before they even get a chance to" vs "do you ask people to buckle up once you see that they didn't". :)

I was just in Montreal where not only can a passenger be ticketed for not being belted, but the driver also gets a ticket. My dad (who taught me to drive) taught me to not change out of Park until everyone is belted. I normally ask "is everyone ready?" before changing out of Park, which gives me an opportunity to wait for everyone to be belted. I don't think I've ever had to ask anyone to bukcle up... maybe I've reminded someone once, but never had to insist. I would insist. For anyone.

They laughed at me when I put on my seatbelt to use the driving-simulator at Ford.

I have pulled cars out of my driveway to park on the street right next to it without a seatbelt, but that's really about it. If it's not one of the immediately adjacent spots (i.e. I have to actually pull into the middle of the street to get around a car in one of the adjacent spots) I will wear it.

Swapping cars around in the driveway is the only time I will skip wearing my seatbelt. Especially if it's just me juggling two cars.

But if I'm actually driving the car I won't start it until everyone is buckled up. If they're in the backseat I'll make some comment about how it's a little tricky but the buckle is in the middle and then I'll wait.

Hm. I answered "No, but I would rather they do it" for number 2, but that's not realllly accurate. It's pretty situational. Kids? I'd make them. Friends? I'd make a joke and suggest it. My boss? I probably wouldn't ask.

Not that I drive, but if i did, I'dm make everyone buckle up. There are some times when there is too much crap in the car (if I'm moving or something) and Iliterally cannot buckle up, but that's about the only exception.

For #1, somewhere between options 1 and 2. I won't always wear my seatbelt for swapping cars out of the driveway, but it feels weird not to. Sometimes I do anyway out of habit. Anytime else, I have my seatbelt on.

I always wear a seatbelt as a passenger in a car, unless perhaps for a very short trip when the seatbelt is not available (but I'll rarely use one on a public van or bus, even if there is one available, hrm). If I'm a co-passenger in someone else's car, I'll sometimes mention seatbelts to someone who hasn't put theirs on, but won't say more. In my own car, I figure it's my right to insist if I want to.

What she said about #1.

My seatbelt-as-passenger habits slackened considerably when I lived in Greece, where the taxi drivers seem to take it as a personal affront if you wear a seatbelt. In a private car I will always wear one, but I don't insist that others do. To be honest I don't usually even think to check.

I'm more inclined to insist if they're riding shotgun, since half the reason of being restrained is not smacking into me.

I won't have a "I'm not moving this car until you do" moment, but I'll probably doubly insist, which is one more than usual.

I generally feel that people in the front seats have to be buckled up, but don't feel strongly about wearing seatbelts in the back seat of a standard car.
