Mostly I just want to bitch, since we haven't really worked on the problem long enough to have exhasted our possiblities.

So the previous owner of our house, most likely to cover up the fact the floor isn't in perfect shape, covered our basement with carpet squares. Our basement, through both drain blockage and rain water has gotten wet over the past 7 years (has it really been that long) and the squares acted like little sponges holding in the water which created a perfect envionment for mold and fungus which was also hidden by the carpet squares. Last night we started the clean up process, putting the squares in bags.

The city of somerville didn't take the stupid bags. They deemed them "construction material" which they won't take and their web site suggests hireing a third party. The problem is most third parties will only rent you a dumpster. We have maybe 3 bags of square right now. We aren't constructing and I feel annoyed that there doesn't seem to be an easy solution to this.

We still have a lot of research to do, including phoning Somerville DPW and asking what they suggest. We might just trickle the squares in our trash, since I don't know why they would take a chair but not carpet squares.

EDIT: I phoned them. They'll come back for the house hold trash they didn't take the first time. They said they should be able to take the carpet squares, but I'm little worried they'll decided not to. We removed the shingles.
