Thanks to your collective kind guidance, I found almond butter. It was, hoever, $11 a jar! I bought some, but if it becomes anything regular in my life, I think I should consider making my own.
I believe it can be had for somewhat, and possibly significantly, less than that, if you go the right place. I'd expect TJ's to not suck, if they have it.
I happened to be in TJs yesterday. Their almond butter is $6 per jar. I suspect that's cheaper than making it oneself, unless one has a good almond source.
I seem to use much less of it per serving than peanut butter (or even cashew butter, which is also pricy but good), because the texture is so weird. I would be excited if it came in an emulsified form that reminded me less of oobleck.
I saw a pretty good variety of almond butter at the Harvest Coop today. They have fewer peanut butters than most supermarkets but seem to make up for it with more variety on related things.
