thoughts on the new movie 3d
Feb. 16th, 2009 05:04 pmI like 3d. I think it's the next step that media needs to do. I'm excited by the technologies that are starting to emerge (espeically the work done on glassesless stuff, because I think that will be required before you can have 3d TV.)
But sadly I don't think Coraline in 3d really added much. I like that they're trying to make it mainstream or at least more common, but until it really feels worth it, I'm not sure there will be enough of a market to embrace it. I almost felt that animation is the wrong place for it, because we've already been impressed by the leaps and bounds that animation has taken and modern styles almost over emphasize shadows for extra depth. I think it might have more impact in live action.
