I needed to go man the house in Shirley for handing out candy (our house doesn't get any trick-or-treaters.) I decided I would wear Alastor without all the upgrades. I lucked out and got another wig and accessories set for $10 and did a little styling on it (I want to do more with it as gain styling confidence) which also included a monocle chain and better ears (though that's the most important thing I want to upgrade.) The wig's red hair matches the other wig that chopped a bunch of hair off, so that's very good for me to make the ears with.
I'm very glad I learned from somewhere that the base makeup is grey, because I think I would have used white. There was a lot of "trust the process" there, because it looked so clownish before the wig was on.
The first trick-or-treaters came while I was getting my shirt on, and rushed to get it buttons, miss buttons and showed more cleavage than I would like to small children and their parents. I hope I didn't shock anyone. Several kids, including some that were WAY too young (10ish) recognized Alastor.
I was very pleased with the outcome. I think this is my first bought costume since I was a child. And that coat would have been such a pain. I added some shoulder pads both for shape and to shorten the sleeves. I made the gloves and the staff, and painted the boots and gave just a little styling and trim to the wig.
It was the right choice for handing out candy, since the gloves are a lot more usable has hands than Blitzo, but it would have been cool to see if anyone recognized Blitzo.
