open houses

Saw two open houses today. The first claimed to be 1920 sq. ft., but felt smaller than this house. The layout was so horrible.

The second house I liked better, claimed to be 1982 sq. ft. I had a much better lay out, but still felt much like this house for space. The one thing that was WAY better was it had a wonderfully useful basement, space in the garage for tools and a car and closets. SO MANY CLOSETS! so I know I'm in love with the modern house plan. The materials used in the house felt cheap, however. The carpet was badly installed and all the doors were fiberglass. I don't think fiberglass doors are a show stopper, but they added to the feel. The major problem with the house is it was on 20, which is pretty busy. The sound insulation in the house was good, but busy street is a tough thing to dampen. Made the backyard less than peaceful as well.

It was a good reality check. I don't know if the market has what we want and need at a price we can afford. I'm not sure if I should give up for now or not. I get very obsessed about things like this, to the point that I talk about nothing else, so it makes me hard to live with.

This is a good time to buy. But I'm not gonna!

Many people take months or even years to find the right house. Just because there is not anything currently on the market that meets your criteria doesn't mean that they are impossible criteria or that something won't come on the market that fits them.

Yeah, it took almost 2 years and 3 offers for me to find my current place.
I also keep an eye on the market out of curiosity, and this year
seems to have had much less inventory than past years.
The perfect house for someone is sometimes one-of-a-kind
so it often means being patient and looking until you find
the right one. We're looking forward to your future posts
as you keep looking. :)

Ooo! If you've been keeping an eye on the market, I should possibly chet you up on theories about right times to buy and sell. Also, do you have a complete guess at what my house is worth?
