Today's capitalistic amazement

Holigraphic aluminum foil.

It has little snow flakes printed on it. This is so your cookies will be dazzled when baking, I guess.

shiny! oooo!
is it actually on the foil, or is there a thin plastic film involved?

There is no disernable plastic layer. It might be really thin and well stuck, but it also might just be on the foil.

Capitalism is nice, but... this week's Lore Brand Comics has something to say on the subject.

so who besides the chef gets to see this? I presume it's too fragile to use as, say, wrapping paper for a gift. Wacky. I guess there are some foods that are served wrapped in foil... baked potatoes, campfire-cooked corn on the cob... That'd be neat for those...

They actually suggest wrapping presents in it (thought don't go through na xray after wards. :) )

It's prettty tough, it just wouldn't be my choice. Though I might anyway, since it's pretty neat stuff.
