Motivation and focus

I've been having a problem in taiko lately, one that I've known about for a long time. If you give me warning that you care about something (even a day) I'll work my butt off at getting a result, but if you just sort of leave me to my own devices, I won't really focus on anything well enough to get it finished. I don't know how to either express this to the members (which I bet they can't acutally know what they want me to know before hand) or how to find internal motivation to keep everything polished (in a rotation or something.)

It all comes down to my lack of self-confidence. I have trouble caring about things that other people don't express an interest in.
